Developer isage has released a port of Streets of Rage Remake (SORR) for the PS Vita
What is Streets of Rage Remake
Streets of Rage Remake -SORR, for short- from BoMbErGaMeS is a remake of the classic arcade Beat’em up game Streets of Rage. The remake was developed with the BennuGD game engine.
In the words of a fan:
You’ll go throughout an immense town fighting against people who try to attack you. There are more than 60 different enemies, you can choose among 16 characters, choose your favourite one and kick *** out there.
It’s even better than the original one. More characters, more levels, more actions, more finals,… Amazing.
This port has gone through its share of controversy, with Sega shutting the project down back in 2011. But it seems to still be actively maintained to this day, with the latest release dated from December 2020.
Download and install Streets of Rage Remake
As a reminder, you will need a hacked PS Vita (this is extremely easy to do nowadays) in order to run this homebrew port.
From the project’s readme:
- You can download VPK-package from the releases section.
- You’ll need linux or WSL. Install python3.
- Obtain SoRR 5.2 data and copy it into
data
directory in this repository. (Download SoRR 5.2 – mirror) - Run
prepare.sh
, this should remove unused files and unpack data file. - Copy contents of
data/
toux0:/data/sorr/
. - Install and run VPK.
