Yet another awesome port released for the PS Vita! Monument Valley has just been released by developer hatoving, and is an unofficial port of the game of the same name.

What is Monument Valley for PS Vita?

In Monument Valley, player character Princess Ida journeys through mazes of optical illusions and impossible objects, which are referred to as “sacred geometry” in-game, as she journeys to be forgiven for something. The game is presented in isometric view, and the player interacts with the environment to find hidden passages as Ida progresses to the map’s exit. Each of the ten levels has a different central mechanic. Interactions include moving platforms and pillars and creating bridges. The player is indirectly cued through the game by design elements like color, and directly cued by crow people, who block Ida’s path. Critics compared the game’s visual style to a vibrant M. C. Escher drawing and Echochrome. (source wikipedia)

This is a Vita port of this game, and basically plays the same. From the port’s readme:

Port of Monument Valley for the PS Vita. In Monument Valley you will manipulate impossible architecture and guide a silent princess through a stunningly beautiful world. Monument Valley is a surreal exploration through fantastical architecture and impossible geometry. Guide the silent princess Ida through mysterious monuments, uncovering hidden paths, unfolding optical illusions and outsmarting the enigmatic Crow People. All credit of making the game goes to ustwo games.

Monument Valley 1.0.1

Please note that version 1.0.1, which fixes some bugs, was released shortly after 1.0.0. If you’ve downloaded 1.0.0 initially, we recommend you update.

Monument Valley Vita 1.0.1 changelog:

  • Fixed some lightning issues
  • The text at the prelude is fixed now (hopefully)
  • Fixed the shaders at Forgotten Shores Level 1 and 2 (hopefully)

Download and install Monument Valley for PS Vita

Install and Setup

A note on controls: The game basically only requires you to use the touchscreen. Other buttons are not required.

Because Monument Valley requires files from the original games, you will need to extract those files from your legally owned copy of the game. Specifically:

The games requires files either from the Android version, or the Steam version (Panoramic Edition) of the game. Note that it is easier to install the Vita version from the Steam game, as installing from the Android version has significantly more steps:

Steam

If you have the latest Steam files for the game (Monument Valley: Panoramic Edition), then continue on with this section.

Note that the files you need are in the depot with it’s ID being 1927721. You can check what depot you currently possess by taking a look at the file in (STEAM INSTALL HERE)/steamapps/appmanifest_1927720.acf. The depot you have installed should be under "InstalledDepots.

    • Download the repository and extract it to a new folder.
    • Download (from the Releases) and unzip the PC_PATCHES zip file to a new folder in the repo folder with the same name as the ZIP file.
    • Go to your game folder, grab all of it’s contents (Monument Valley.exeMonument Valley_Data folder, etc.) and put them in a new folder called PC (case-sensitive) in the repository folder.
    • Run the applyPatchPC.bat file and let it sit until it shows “Done!” on the command line.
    • There now should be a folder called patchedFiles with all of the patched content inside.

Android

If you have the version 2.5.16 (or the latest version, 3.3.104) of the game for Android, then continue on with this section.

    • Download the repository and extract it to a new folder.
    • Download (from the Releases) and unzip the PHONE_PATCHES zip file to a new folder in the repo folder with the same name as the ZIP file.
    • Create a new folder called “ANDROID”.
    • Dump the .APK file from your game and copy all of it’s contents to the new folder you created.
    • Dump the .OBB file as well and copy all of the contents from this path of the file (assets/bin/Data/) to ANDROID/assets/bin/Data/.
    • Run the applyPatchAndroid.bat file (applyPatchAndroidLatest if you’re using the newest version) and let it sit until it shows “Done!” on the command line.
    • There now should be a folder called patchedFiles with all of the patched content inside.

Congrats, you now have the patched files. But we’re not done just yet.

Folder method

    • Connect your PS Vita to your computer via USB/FTP with VitaShell
    • Make a new folder on your Vita’s SD Card (can be named whatever you want)
    • Open up the .VPK file from the Releases page of the repository and take it’s contents to the new folder you just created.
    • Do the same thing but with the patchedFiles‘ contents
    • Select the folder on Vitashell and press Triangle
    • Go all the way down to More -> Install folder
    • Confirm your selection.

VPK method

    • Open up the .VPK file from the Releases page of the repository and drag ‘n drop the patchedFiles‘ contents to the root of the VPK file.
    • Connect your PS Vita to your computer via USB/FTP with VitaShell
    • Drag ‘n drop your VPK file to your desired location on your SD Card
    • Install the VPK file

At last, be sure to create a folder called MV in ux0:data/. This folder is essential to create, otherwise if you don’t, the game will freeze on certain moments. This port also includes the DLC “Forgotten Shores”. If you want to enable it, create a file called “dlc” in the MV folder.
