PS Vita Release: Freespace Duology (Descent Freespace and Freespace 2) PSVita port by Rinnegatamante – FuHEN contest entry

Yet another entry by prolific developer Rinnegatamante for the FuHEN PS Vita Homebrew contest, his fourth so far if I’m counting correctly. Today he delivers a port of Descent Freespace (and Freespace 2), games that are based on the Descent Franchise.

What is Freespace Duology for PS Vita

Descent Freespace is a space combat simulation initially releasedin 1998 on PC. The game places players in the role of a human pilot, who operates in several classes of starfighter and combats against opposing forces, either human or alien, in various space-faring environments, such as in orbit above a planet or within an asteroid belt.

Port of Descent: FreeSpace – The Great War and Freespace 2 for PSVITA.

Both games are popular space combat simulation games derived from Descent franchise with a very florish modding community that created 20 years worth of extra campaigns playable with this port.

Download and Install Freespace Duology for PS Vita

As a reminder you will need a hacked PS Vita to run homebrew games. Hacking your PS Vita is a super easy and safe process nowadays (our guide here).

Installation instructions

• Install libshacccg.suprx (The fastest way to install it is by running this homebrew: https://vitadb.rinnegatamante.it/#/info/997)
• Install the vpk.

For Freespace 2 Demo:

• The demo files are included in freespace_demo.zip. Just extract it in ux0:data.

For Freespace 1 (Full Game):

• Create ux0:data/freespace folder.
• Place all files with .vp extension in ux0:data/freespace.
• Create ux0:data/freespace/.freespace folder.
• Copy Cache, Data, Data1 and Data2 folders in ux0:data/freespace/.freespace.

For Freespace 2 (Full Game):

• Create ux0:data/freespace2 folder.
• Place all files with .vp extension in ux0:data/freespace2.
• Create ux0:data/freespace2/.freespace2 folder.
• Place data, data2 and data3 folders in ux0:data/freespace2/.freespace2
