Another great port for the FuHEN PS Vita Homebrew contest, Gone Home is a port of the first person exploration game of the same name.

The FuHEN contest is over and votes are ongoing, but there’s been a stream of submissions to the contest in the last days of the event. I’m trying to slowly catch up to all the releases that have been done for contest, so bear with me.

What is Gone Home for PS Vita

Set in the year 1995, Gone Home puts the player in the role of a young woman returning from overseas to her rural Oregon family home to find her family currently absent and the house empty, leaving her to piece together recent events. Gone Home does not feature much interactivity, but instead has the player explore the house at their own pace and determine what has transpired by examining items, journals, and other items left around the various rooms.

From the developer:

June 7th, 1995. 1:15 AM

You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something’s not right. Where is everyone? And what’s happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family’s lives by investigating what they’ve left behind.

Go Home Again.

(It is recommended to apply a full overclock to both CPU and GPU for an optimal play experience. Players who opt to run at standard clocks are recommended to enable “Ultra Performance Mode”, disable “Framerate Limit” and Vsync, along with setting “Internal Resolution” to “Low”)

(Please note that Gone Home for PlayStation Vita only supports English, Additional languages are planned to be added after FuHEN has concluded.)

Download and Install Gone Home for PS Vita

As a reminder you will need a hacked PS Vita to run homebrew games. Hacking your PS Vita is a super easy and safe process nowadays (our guide here).

Installation instructions

You must own a legal copy Gone Home for Windows running the latest game patch to play Gone Home for PlayStation Vita. Official console versions and versions for Mac/Linux are sadly not supported at this time.

WARNING: in the release presented on the FuHEN website, only the itch.io version of game data is supported. Support for Steam, GOG, etc, will be implemented in further updates of the port.

Ensure your PC has 4 GB free, and your Vita has 800 MB free before beginning.

  1. Copy your PC game files to the “input” folder
  2. Run the patch .bat file that corresponds to your version. If it doesn’t work for some reason, try using “patch_other.bat” before getting in contact to report the issue.
  3. Install GoneHome_Base.vpk
  4. Replace the files in “app/GNHM00451” with the files in “GNHM00451_patched”
  5. For more information, please read the “Gone Home for PlayStation Vita – Installation Instructions.pdf” file included in the download.
