PS4 Release: mc4-cheat-decrypter

PS4 Scene developer Bucanero has released a tool to decrypt/encrypt MC4 patch files for the PS4.

What are MC4 Files?

MC4 is a popular format to encrypt Cheat files to run on hacked PS4s. Trainers/Cheats are created with tools such as the PS4 Reaper suite. Then, to prevent “unfair” modifications by other people (typically to prevent others from taking credit for minor modifications of your work), these tools offer the option to save/load patches in the MC4 encrypted format. Popular PS4 Custom Firmware GoldHEN also supports the MC4 Format.

While there are reasons one could want to protect their work with such encryption, Bucanero says “I respect people creating codes, but I like to see what is running on my system.”, which IMO is also a fair statement. You wouldn’t want to risk a brick or some credentials being stolen with a clever MC4 trick…

I’ve been annoyed by the amount of PS4 cheats using this “mc4” encrypted format, so I took some time to reverse and crack it. Basically, it’s Base64 + AES256-CBC encryption. I respect people creating codes, but I like to see what is running on my system.
