Release: VitaQUAKE 1.0 for PS Vita

Developer Rinnegatamante just released VitaQUAKE 1.0 for the PS vita, as part of the Revitalize Competition.

What is vitaQUAKE?

VitaQUAKE, as the name implies, is a port of QUAKE for the PS Vita. It runs on the Rejuvenate hack, and as such requires you to run on PS Vita firmware 3.51 or lower.

Do I need to introduce QUAKE? It’s basically the father of all modern FPS (Wolfenstein 3D and Doom being the grandfathers), and it’s a load of fun.

From the developer:

Today i want to release my Quake port for Rejuvenate!
It’s based on winQuake and it supports both Shareware and Full version of Quake.
Right now, it uses CPU for rendering purposes so if you play in full screen mode you can notice some framedrops (like 20-25 fps). To have a fullspeed stable framerate you can simply reduce a bit screen size in Options Menu.
The packet you can download here contains the free shareware version. If you want to use your full installation of Quake you just have to add pak1.pak file to id1 folder.

Installation:
– Place the id1 folder in the root of your PSVITA through FTP Vita
– Launch vitaQuake

What is the Revitalize competition?

Revitalize is a Homebrew competition for the PS Vita, organized by wololo.net. We expect homebrew submissions to run on the Rejuvenate hack. Anyone with a PS Vita running Firmware 3.51 or below can run homebrews through the rejuvenate hack, which is compatible with the Vita TV as well.

The prizes are as follow:

• $400 for the best entry
• $300 for the second best entry
• $100 for Wololo’s favorite open source entry (this can be cumulative with one of the 2 prizes above)
• $100 for the best color emulator (think 8 bit or above, no gameboy/gameboy color)
• $100 for the best non emulator homebrew

You have until November 30th to submit your entry for the Revitalize competition
