NoSleep and LastSeconds plugins released for the PSVita

Like the iOS jailbreak scene in the early days, the Vita scene is getting all kinds of nifty tweaks. This time around, it’s NoSleep and LastSeconds from two different developers that may be handy for some people.

What’s the NoSleep plugin?

As the name suggests, it’s a plugin that forces your PSVita NOT to go to sleep. That means that the Vita won’t go into sleep mode. This could be useful if you’re using your PSVita/PSTV if you need to test something on your Vita that requires the Vita not to go to sleep. That being said, to leave your display on, you need to change the settings from the Settings app from the setting shown below to have your screen on. Leaving your OLED Vita’s screen on the same image for too long may cause burn-in.

The developer ‘NamelessGhoul0’ of /talk forums also notes that it will greatly diminish battery life so be cautious about using it on a PSVita. It may also make your PSVita run really hot if you use it for a very long time. This plugin doesn’t allow the PSVita to go to low power sleep mode if you turn off the screen as the PS light stays blue. This plugin may fix the issue with some games in which savedata gets corrupted when the Vita goes to sleep. You can also change the time it takes the Vita to go to Standby mode from the Power Save Settings in the Settings application for a safer way to achieve similar functionality of this plugin. The ‘official’ way goes up to 30 mins of inactivity before going to standby mode.

What’s the LastSeconds plugin?

This is a nifty little plugin that adds seconds to the PSVita’s clock on the top bar. It may be useful for using as an accurate timer for a few seconds but it’s really just a little nifty tweak. The file size of plugin is relatively large which may indicate that it contains debug features which may lead it to taking more RAM. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update. This plugin is based on the ShellBat plugin of ‘nowrep’. LastSeconds is by /talk user ‘isseosenpei’ and no source code is yet released. (Yes, I know, this was released a few days ago but it doesn’t warrant a full article for itself IMO)

Conclusion

Installing these plugins is pretty straightforward if you follow the links below. All you need to do is to copy them to your PSVita and list them under the proper section of taiHEN’s ‘config.txt’. If you have any issues, contact the developers of these plugins. Have fun playing around with more tweaks on your Vita.. just don’t install too much 😉
