Recently, TheFlow seems to be on a coding spree and now he’s released NoLockScreen. This comes after his release of MiniVitaTV, an update to Adrenaline and various PSP game dual analogue stick patches for his Patreon supporters!
What is NoLockScreen?
Unfortunately, the lockscreen doesn’t have much use on the PSVita. Perhaps a plugin to add quick app/game launchers could make it useful tho!
As its name suggests, NoLockScreen is a user-land plugin, which hooks into SceShell, that disables the lockscreen found on the PSVita. The lockscreen is a feature that’s considered to be useless by many as it doesn’t serve much of a purpose. Unlike lockscreens in other operating systems like Android, the PSVita one doesn’t have any quick app launchers, weather information or a search function. Furthermore, it could cause issues when unlocking your device if your touchscreen is a little iffy.
Perhaps the only good use for it is checking the time in a hurry. Now, with this plugin, you’ll be able to get rid of this mostly useless feature and start using your PSVita immediately after you press the power/PS button when the screen is off! It must be noted that there is one instance in which this plugin doesn’t kill the lockscreen and that is when you cold boot your PSVita. However, it’s still possible to bypass it by turning the screen off and on again! UPDATE: An update has been released to address this!
From my testing, I can confirm that this plugin works on FW 3.60 and others have reported it works fine on FW 3.67 too. TheFlow hasn’t mentioned that any specific version isn’t supported so that probably means that every firmware from 3.60 to 3.68 is supported. If you have a passcode set when unlocking the screen, this plugin will bypass it!
How do I install it?
If you have a passcode to unlock your PSVita, you’re out of luck as this plugin completely bypasses it. This was only tested on FW 3.60
Installing this plugin is pretty easy and can be done by following these steps:
- Download NoLockScreen from the link below
- Copy it to your PSVita via USB/FTP unless you downloaded it on the device itself via Download Enabler
- Open your taiHEN config file which is either in ux0:/tai or ur0:/tai depending on whether you use SD2Vita as ux0
- Add a line that leads to where you put the plugin under the *main section. My line was “ux0:/tai/nolockscreen.suprx”
- Reboot your PSVita and enjoy!
