If you thought that the PSVita doesn’t have enough crazy games as it is (take Bullet Girls for example), then you’ll be pleased to know that yet another crazy game has been added to its game list. This one is Postal Vita, a port of Postal, by PSVita veteran Rinnegatamante.
What is Postal?
Before you get any wrong ideas, Postal isn’t some type of post service simulator but it’s a 2D shooting game by Running With Scissors.

Postal isn’t really a story-driven game so enjoy it as a chaotic shooting game more than anything else. (Screenshot from Vita port)
The plot revolves around a guy called “Postal Dude” who believes that the US Air Force dropped some mind altering gas on his town although he wasn’t affected. As a result, other inhabitants went insane and so Postal Dude decided to go the local Air Force base to put an end to what was messing up his town. Even though there’s a plot, you shouldn’t take it too seriously as the game is simply there to provide some run-and-gun fun more than anything else!
To get there, you have to fight around numerous people with an arsenal of guns, collect pick-ups and obviously, try not to get killed. Postal received mixed reviews back when it was released in 1997 but its successor, Postal 2, was more successful and controversial which is why it’s much more popular.
What About Postal Vita?
Postal Vita is a source port of Postal that was delivered to the PSVita by Rinnegatamante from the Switch port by MVG. From my brief testing session, I can say that port works pretty well and has the following features:
- Smooth frame rates with a wide-screen aspect ratio so that almost all of the Vita’s screen is filled up
- Working audio and voices so you can enjoy the sound of bullets, sirens and screaming that’s all over the game
- A comfortable control scheme that uses both analogue sticks for control
- If you didn’t figure it out immediately, the right analogue stick is used both for aiming and shooting
- The extra levels found in Super Postal and Special Delivery work properly so you can wreak some havoc elsewhere if you fancy
- You get the full main-menu of Postal so you can get the full Postal experience like you did back in the day
As of right now, saving doesn’t work as you’re thrown back into the pause menu when you try to save a game. That being said, there’s still plenty to enjoy so don’t let the inability to save prevent you from going postal!
Postal is not a free game so the data files aren’t included. However, you can acquire them for the nominal price of $/€2 off Steam or GOG. After getting the game, you have to install it and copy the “res” and “title” folders to ux0:/data/Postal. I have personally tried this port with files from the GOG version so I can confirm that they work out-of-the-box.
Conclusion
Like Meritous, Postal Vita is also based on a Switch port so perhaps, the future of Vita homebrew games will start following that of the Switch scene. Other than Switch ports, the PSVita emulator Vita3K is also presumably making developers’ life easier which may lead to more PSVita homebrew even this late in its life!
UPDATE: To fix saving, just create a folder titled “savegame” in ux0:/data/postal
