When homebrew scene developers put their mind to it, amazing things can be achieved in a short period of time and this is the case with Windows 10 on the Switch as it’s already reached the installer! Other than that, Atmosphere has been updated to version 0.8.5 with a pretty exciting feature!
Windows 10 ARM on the Switch booting to the installer

While Windows 10 ARM has booted to the installer on the Switch, there’s still a lot of work to be done for a useable port! (Image Source)
A few days ago @imbushuo (Ben) told us on Twitter that he was working on booting Windows 10 ARM on the Switch and that some progress had already been made.
However, at that point in the time, the device still wasn’t able to boot Windows 10 as some memory-related fixes were needed but now, these fixes have been made and Windows 10 ARM can boot on the Switch… kind of.
From a video published by @imbushuo himself (below), a hacked Nintendo Switch console was able to boot into the Windows 10 ARM installer or in other words, Windows PE. Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) is a stripped-down version of Windows with significantly less features than a full installation but enough to run some basic programs/utilities in order to run the Windows setup program and troubleshooting utilities. As a result, it can be said that the Switch is seeing some great progress when it comes to running Windows 10 ARM on it but more work needs to be done in order for Windows to be useable.
Currently, @imbushuo is working on getting USB working on the Switch which would allow one to connect peripherals and other devices in order to be able to interact with Windows 10. For more information, follow @imbushuo’s Twitter from the link below and as usual, don’t ask for ETAs as there’s no word on when/whether a fully fledged Windows 10 ARM port for the Switch will see a public release.
Atmosphère 0.8.5 released with cheat support and more
Every now and then, Atmosphère gets an update with some features and bug fixes. Now, Atmosphère 0.8.5 has landed and it brings along:
- Support for cheat codes through a new “dmnt” sysmodule
Do you like messing around with games after beating them? Now, with the latest version of Atmosphere and EdiZon, you can muck around with lots of titles thanks to EdiZon’s RAM editor!
- Cheats can be toggled on/off on a per-title basis and are backwards compatible with previous cheat formats
- An HIPC service API is included in order to let homebrew utilities interface with Atmosphère’s cheating functionality
- EdiZon has been updated with support for this feature, a new auto-updater and many fixes. You may get it from this link.
- You can now override content on a per-title basis separately from HBL overriding so you can loads mods on the same title you use for loading HBL
- HBL and HBMenu now come preloaded with Atmosphère
- Atmosphère now works better with bootloaders other than fusee, such as hekate, as content headers have been added to fusee-secondary
- Some bug fixes including a fix to a bug in which Atmosphère’s fatal screen didn’t show on FW 1.x/2.x
To grab the latest release of Atmosphère, follow the link below to grab the files for updating it. As usual, issues should be reported to the GitHub Issues tab.
Conclusion
While being able to cheat may be great for some, it’s important to note that you shouldn’t cheat when playing online or with local multiplayer as it could annoy other players and exponentially increase the chances of your Switch/Nintendo account being banned! On the other hand, if you don’t care much about cheating, you can still get hyped up about other Switch-related stuff by viewing a video of Windows 10 ARM booting on Nintendo’s console below!
