The PlayStation Vita didn’t get too much in terms of accessories and the most useful ones are L2/R2/L3/R3 grips and micro USB adapters for FAT PSVitas. However, Reddit user ‘xCorra’ decided to give the PSVita another accessory, and that is a dock which lets you transmit the PSVita’s screen over HDMI to your TV!
What is PSVita Dock?
As its name suggests, PSVita Dock is a dock for PSVita devices that behaves similarly to the Nintendo Switch’s dock in that it lets you transmit the device’s screen to a bigger screen! However, unlike the Switch’s dock, it’s more or less just a shell and requires you to provide your own hardware in order to get any functionality from it.

The PSVita Dock, which will be black, is a shell in which you can stuff in a RPi and put your PSVita on top to view the Vita’s screen on your TV
The things that you need to own before you can use this dock include:
- Obviously, you need a hacked PSVita as this dock uses Xerpi’s PSVita’s streaming plugin
- A Raspberry Pi 2 or 3; if you don’t know what it is, the Raspberry Pi is a small single-board computer that can be found online for $30-50 depending on which model you buy
- The Raspberry Pi Zero is also supported but you may experience some lag when using it
- The original Raspberry Pi isn’t supported.
- Revision A models aren’t supported either although I’m not sure which devices xCorra is referring to by ‘Model A’. UPDATE: IT REFERS TO MODEL A+ RPi3s
- An HDMI cable for video and a male to male AUX (3.5mm) jack for audio output
- An extra PSVita cable (proprietary or Micro USB depending on your Vita model)
- Microphone and AUX to USB adapter (can be found for $1-$2 on eBay)
- USB power adapter (5V w/ 3A)
- DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 controller
- In the IndieGoGo page, only the DualShock 4 is mentioned but a DualShock 3 should work just fine with the MiniVitaTV plugin
Should I back the PSVita Dock campaign?

While the PSVita Dock is pretty cool, it must be noted that you can stream your PSVita’s screen to almost every computer from the last decade (and a half) so think about how useful it’ll be before buying it
As this dock is more or less just a plastic shell, my advice is to think twice before going ahead and backing it especially if you have an old laptop lying around that you can leave hooked up to your television at all times. However, if you want a small elegant solution that also looks somewhat nice, this dock might be a good thing to spend a some money on if you don’t mind setting it up yourself although I would’ve liked to have seen a version that’s set up with a Raspberry Pi and ready to be used out of the box.
As of writing this article, the price for the dock is €27 (around $30) and there are only 25 units available but it might be possible that more will be produced if everything goes well and there’s enough demand. According to the IndieGoGo page, the estimated shipping date is May 2019 so if you back it now, it probably won’t take long till it arrives!
Conclusion
To back the project, you can follow the link below but make sure that you fully understand what you’re purchasing. If you’re not a fan of docks, you can try hooking up your PSVita to a Raspberry Pi in order to output the image to your TV through xCorra’s guides on Reddit which are also found below.
