While the emulation scene was a tad slower last week, it seems to have picked up the pace again as we have a port of Yaba Sanshiro for the Switch with playable results and the public release of Cemu 1.15.19. In this article, we’ll also be looking at efforts to bring checkra1n to Linux for those who want to jailbreak iOS 13 without a Mac/Hackintosh!
Switch News: Yaba Sanshiro ported to the Switch with playable results
Like the PlayStation 1, the Sega Saturn is around 25 years old but while the former can be emulated on pretty much anything with decent results including the New 3DS, the Saturn didn’t fare as well when it comes to emulation.
The reasons behind this are numerous although the main two are because of the system’s architectural complexity and lack of interest from developers since the console was nowhere as popular as its rivals from Sony or Nintendo.
However, some development on creating the definitive emulator for the console is still ongoing and it’s mostly centered around Yaba Sanshiro (uoYabause) which has now earned a Switch port with a twist thanks to its main developer devMiyax. Contrary to other emulators, this port doesn’t run in Horizon OS and it isn’t available as a RetroArch core for Lakka either but it comes as a stripped-down Linux distribution, based on Lakka, that you flash on an SD Card.
As per comments from Reddit user ‘R3tro-PK’, this port works much better than the Yaba Sanshiro cores on Lakka/Horizon OS and from some testing, the following titles are playable at full-speed:
- Burning Rangers
- This title is pretty demanding
- Nights into Dreams
- Sonic R
To grab this port of Yaba Sanshiro and play some Saturn games on your Switch, follow this link which also contains donation links. It must be noted that the image provided has numerous known issues such as sleep not working and not being able to change the volume so don’t expect a flawless experience. Obviously, not all titles supported by Yaba Sanshiro will run at full-speed. Thankfully, the source code is available so we might see some fixes eventually.
Other News: Cemu 1.15.19 publicly released with account management and checkra1n coming to Linux soon

On Cemu, you can run many titles including Mario Kart 8 and now.. you can use different accounts too!
Moving away from the Switch but staying on Nintendo’s front, Cemu 1.15.19 has been publicly released after its Patreon release a week earlier following an established trend by the team behind the emulator. This release, which is pretty minor compared to the upcoming Cemu 1.16.0 which will bring Vulkan support, brings along:
- Support for account management
- This lets you create/delete accounts through the emulator’s settings with each account having separate save files
- You may import dumped accounts from a real Wii U console
- Entries in the game list can now be renamed
- A bug relating to Cemu discarding game list entries if it was closed immediately after refreshing the list has been fixed
- A rare memory corruption issue that could lead to crashes in any game was fixed
To grab Cemu 1.15.19, follow this link and you can see its full changelog here. You may support the Cemu Team on Patreon and have access to special builds such as Experimental Vulkan WIP releases.
Heading off in a completely different direction, Christmas may come early for owners of pre-A12 devices on iOS 13 or 12.4.1-12.4.3 who don’t have a computer capable of running macOS. This is because work on creating a Linux port of checkra1n is apparently in advanced stages and according to the veteran developer ‘pimskeks‘, a Linux release is going to drop soon. Longhorn, who’s also involved with checkra1n development, has revealed that the Linux port will initially support ARMv5/6/7 (most 32-bit ARM devices including the Raspberry Pi), ARMv8 and x86_64 (64-bit PCs) so checkra1n dongles will probably become available in the near future!
Conclusion
Other than these releases, the PSVita also yet another plugin titled ShowInfo Lite which shows the name, TITLE ID and App version while you’re running a game/application.
