PS4: SpecterDev shares progress on upcoming SDK

PS4 Scene developer SpecterDev has shared progress on the open source SDK and associated toolchain for the PS4. In the video, we see a homebrew running with graphics and audio (wav) support. The dev states this SDK fully supports Freetype for fonts, libc, and a bunch of libraries (including png per this new video).

SpecterDev has also mentioned that support for more libraries, such as the popular SDL, is being added. Support for game engines (or libraries such as SDL) could help rapidly port homebrew or open source games from other platforms.

An open source SDK with full support of mainstream libraries has been a missing component of the PS4 for a long time. The hope is that providing a fully functional set of tools, that would not rely on pirated/leaked tools from Sony, could allow for way more homebrews to be ported or created on the platform.

SpecterDev, along with flat_z, diwidog, and CrazyVoid, has been working on the SDK for months. It seems a release is close, although the developer has not given any specific date for a release yet, and the code is currently still in a private repository. A few days ago, CrazyVoidPS4 also shared some progress on adding libraries to the toolchain.

PS4 Jailbreak 7.02 When?

For those who are wondering, progress on a homebrew SDK does not mean that the latest PS4 firmwares will be hacked. These tools will allow us to create homebrew for already hacked PS4, that is, consoles running 5.07 and below. If, however, new PS4 firmwares ever get a public jailbreak release, it does mean those would benefit from these tools moving forward.
