Recently, the Nintendo Switch has been seeing a good deal of releases and with Team Xecuter’s hacking solutions soon bringing the ability to hack previously unhackable units, things are on track to get more exciting in the forseeable future! In this article, we’re going to be looking at sys-tune and a fix to Yuzu that eliminates the soft locks in Pokémon Sword and Shield!
HookedBehemoth releases sys-tune, a background audio player + Tesla overlay for controlling it
If you’ve been playing games for any amount of time, then you know the soundtracks of certain games aren’t appealing enough to listen for hours on end so one starts listening to other music from their smartphone or tablet. Now, HookedBehemoth has come up with a pretty elegant solution to let you listen to other music directly from the Switch itself with the release of sys-tune.
As the paragraph above implies, sys-tune is a sysmodule (akin to plugins in the PSP/Vita world) for hacked Nintendo Switch systems that allows you to play music in background from your microSD card. This sysmodule also comes with a Tesla overlay meaning that you easily control it while playing a game through on-screen controls similar to the Switch’s quick settings. It is important to note that as per user reports, sys-tune’s overlay doesn’t work on SX OS so for now, it’s Atmosphere only!
You may grab Sys-Tune from its GitHub Release Page and find out more about it by checking out its README.
Softlocks in Pokémon Sword and Shield eliminated through a minor fix making the game playable
In emulation scenes, it’s not rare to hear that a single line fix manages to get rid of pretty noticeable issues as this has happened a few times in the Dolphin emulator for the GameCube & Wii.
Now, a single line fix in the Yuzu emulator has managed to eliminate the soft locks in Pokémon Sword and Shield which effectively makes the game fully playable in the emulator provided you have a capable-enough PC!
Other than fixing the soft locks in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the single line fix also had the following effects on other games:
- Miniature placing was fixed in Zelda Link’s Awakening
- Distorted audio was fixed in Toki Tori, FF7, Diablo 3, MEGA39s, A Hat in Time
- Jitters and flickers were fixed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Numerous fixes in TES Skyrim, Unreal Engine 4 games, Starlink, Oninaki, Team Sonic Racing, Onimusha Warriors, Tales of Vesperia and The Messenger
The Yuzu Team has also mentioned that they’re currently working on improving performance in Pokémon with changes expected to made public soon.
As of right now, the fix (which is publicly documented) is only available in Yuzu Early Access Builds exclusive to Patreon supporters ($5/month or more) but it’s only a matter of time till it ends up in the public Nightlies. You may read more about it by following this link to a public Patreon post.
Conclusion
Moving away from developments relating to the Switch, Reddit user ‘PocketMars’ has announced that he’s been able to make some small VR games for the PSVita using Unity and a custom-made VR headset which is pretty interesting to check out. On the 3DS emulation for Android front, Mikage is now able to get in-game in Super Mario 3D Land although performance still isn’t stellar.
