The PlayStation Vita’s port of Persona 4 has a decent following in the modding community seeing it has a few mods of its own but now, cuevavirus has just released a mod that will make the game look infinitely better! In this article, we’ll also be looking at news from Team Xecuter about the commencement of SX Core shipments.

Persona 4 Golden HD & Full HD Mod Released!

Despite the PlayStation Vita being more than capable to render Persona 4 Golden at 960×544 (native resolution), Atlus decided to make the game render at 840×476 probably in a bid to save battery life as this allowed the game to run at a stable 30FPS without running the Vita’s CPU @ 444MHz.

Fancy playing P4G @ 720p or 1080p? Well, now you can thanks to cuevavirus’ patch! (Image from Team CBPS’ forum post linked below)

To remedy this, patches were created to make the game run at native resolution which ended up in Electry’s VitaGrafix but now, modding has made the game run past the Vita’s native 960×544 resolution by taking it up to 720p and even 1080p!

As announced in State of CBPS, Team CBPS member cuevavirus had been working on a patch to increase the resolution of Persona 4 Golden and this has now been released on Team CBPS forums as user-mode plugin (suprx). This patch allows one to do the following with P4G’s resolution:

  • Render the game @ 1280×720 (720p) on their PlayStation TV  or PlayStation Vita
    • If you’re using it on the PlayStation Vita, you get a super-sampled image on screen.
    • In the near future, you may also enjoy the higher resolution by streaming the PSVita’s screen to your PC via USB through udcd_uvc. An update will probably be released soon as per this merged commit by cuevavirus, which would allow one to stream the Vita’s screen at 720p 30FPS.
  • Render the game @ 1920×1080 (1080p) on the PlayStation TV
  • For best performance, overclocking to 444MHz or 494/500MHz is recommended with the game pushing an easy 30FPS with the 720p patch and hovering between 20-30FPS with the 1080p one

You may get the patch for your PlayStation Vita by following this link to Team CBPS’ forums and install it by modifying your taiHEN ‘config.txt’ file. All P4G releases are supported including the Japanese, Japanese reprint, North American, European/Australian and Asian versions.

SX Core units are being shipped with SX Lite units due next week!

After 7.5 months since the initial rumours, Team Xecuter is shipping their hacking solutions which will surely increase the size of the Switch’s modding community as all consoles on the market should be hackable!

With the Team Xecuter hacking solution saga having started in October of last year as just a rumour, the wait is finally over as Team Xecuter have just shipped their first units to the general public after a successful run of beta testing was performed with the help of various scene members. According to a post on their website announcing this, all pre-orders are currently in the process of being fulfilled but shipping delays are to be expected due to disruption caused by the coronavirus which is still a significant problem in some countries.

Other than announcing that SX Core units have started being shipped, Team Xecuter also announced that SX Lite units will start being shipped on the 16th of June which is a little under a week from today meaning that Switch Lite users with soldering knowledge will also be able to hack their consoles in a short while! It’s important to state that both SX Core & SX Lite require some degree of soldering so if you’re not comfortable with the process, which can be read about in official manuals which were translated to over 30 languages, it is recommended you wait for a modding shop in your area to carry out the installation process!

Conclusion

In the PlayStation Vita scene, EasyVPK has been released by Electric1447 which lets you download homebrew from VitaDB with data file download support being in the works. This serves as an alternative to VHBB which has proven to be quite problematic for some. MineSweeper3D has been released for the 3DS which is a different take on Minesweeper in that you play with a first person perspective.

Sony will be holding their Future of Gaming showcasing PlayStation 5 games tomorrow after it was delayed and going back to the Persona 4 Golden topic, there are rumours that we may be seeing a PC part later this week!
