With major developments in the PlayStation 4 scene & sizable ones in others like emulation, the PlayStation Vita scene has recently taken a bit of a backseat but releases are still being made. In this article, we’re going to look at the release of two games by VitaHEX, a well-known figure in the Vita’s homebrew scene behind various nicely done homebrew games!
The Hallway 1.0 – a P.T. clone for the Vita
The Hallway has you roaming around the corridors of an eerie house solving puzzles… but with version 1.0, you can escape!
Originally released in early 2019, The Hallway is a P.T. clone for the PlayStation Vita & PSTV which utilises heavily optimised lighting, fog & atmosphere effects for great performance together with making use of hand-drawn 3D models. For those that are unaware, P.T. is a demo released in 2014 for the PlayStation 4 for a cancelled installment in the Silent Hill series called ‘Silent Hills’ which amassed a decent fan base especially after it was taken down from the PlayStation Store in late April 2015 after the cancellation of the game it was demo-ing.
Coming from the SIlent Hill franchise, P.T. (and by extension The Hallway) is obviously horror demo that provides an eerie atmosphere and also comes with various loops (different variations of the base plot) together with puzzles to solve. Two weeks ago, VitaHEX released The Hallway 1.0 to the public after last updating the game in 2019 and this update comes with:
- More ‘loops’ are now present thus giving more replay value
- Performance has been improved with the game being able to run at a constant 30FPS with VSync
- Visuals & lighting were improved together with added sound effects
- Random jump scares have been added
- It is now possible to escape the house!

VitaStacks – A simple yet fun block stacking game
VitaStacks is fun puzzle game for the Vita with nicely-done graphics that can provide a pleasant challenge!
VitaStacks is a relatively simple puzzle for both the PSVita & PSTV released earlier this week which as its name suggests, focuses on stacking blocks. While this may sound like a mundane concept, VitaHEX games managed to it more interesting because when you press ‘X’ (or tap on the touch screen) to place the moving block on the current block, the parts of the block that land outside the current block are chopped off the next block. This makes the game more challenging as placing the next block is more difficult as it gets smaller.
Other than providing a fun challenge to those looking to waste some time, VitaStacks comes with pretty colourful graphics and smooth animations thus giving it the sort of polish found in nicely-made mobile games. High scores are also scored locally so it may be fun way to challenge yourself when bored!
