Being one of the most updated PSVita homebrew game ports, GTA San Andreas on the console has received yet another update! This time around, it brings about optimisations and some minor yet welcome improvements.
GTA San Andreas 1.6 released for the Vita
It is no secret that Rockstar Games failed to deliver on the PlayStation Vita which led many to wish for GTA ports over the years but to no avail. However, the homebrew community did indeed deliver first with a native GTA III port, then a GTA VC one and finally a GTA San Andreas one in February. As a result, one can play all GTA games up to and including GTA SA on the Vita either natively or through emulation which turns this once GTA-deprived console into a force to be reckoned with.
Moving over to the actual update, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas 1.6 was released on Sunday and brings some welcome improvements to this already polished port. According to its changelog, the stuff it brings along includes:
- Some optimisations, with some being related to graphical shaders, to make the game run even better
- Automatic landing gear deployment/retraction has been disabled
- The free aim option has been fixed
- The plane rudder control code has been moved to GetTurret
Conclusion
As shader-related code was updated, it is important to remove the ux0:/data/gtasa/cache folder if you had already installed and played GTA San Andreas on your console. This is so that the updated version of the game can recompile the shaders which takes a few minutes after installing the VPK. For those who haven’t installed GTA San Andreas on their Vita just yet, the port’s GitHub repository provides instructions on how to do so which includes extracting files from the Android port of the game.
