A short while ago, a jailbreak for PlayStation 4 FW 6.72 by sleirsgoevy dropped which finally ended the agonising wait for many! However, as lucrative as jumping on the FW 6.72 may seem, it may be a good idea to hold off for just a few more days on FW 5.05 (or lower) since the low success rate may prove to frustrate you quite a bit.

FW 6.72 jailbreak by sleirsgoevy reported to have a fairly low success rate

A jailbreak for FW 6.72 is out thus ending the FW 5.05 reign but it may be wise to wait a bit longer before updating 😉

Finally getting off of FW 5.05 is undoubtedly pretty exciting for many interested in hacking their PlayStation 4 and if you checked out KiiWii’s FRMCHK webpage showing the many hundreds of games you’ll be able to play on FW 6.72 but not on FW 5.05, updating is more tempting. However, it may be wise to hold off a little longer on FW 5.05 since sleirsgoevy’s exploit doesn’t exactly work on the first try.

As reported by various community members on Reddit and elsewhere, the success rate of the exploit is around 1 in 10 with some individuals having run it 20 times before it finally worked. The lack of reliability was also acknowledged by the jailbreak’s developer through a commit on GitHub updating the landing page displayed on the PlayStation 4 when attempting to run the exploit noting that one may have to try running the exploit around 10 times before it works.

Some scene members recommending to stay put on FW 5.05 for now

With the jailbreak’s current success rate, Al Azif recommends to hold off updating to FW 6.72 for now unless you’re pretty patient – she obviously also recognises sleirsgoevy’s excellent work!

When the exploit fails to run, the PlayStation 4 often hangs on the current screen or straight out crashes thus instantly powering down. As the exploit fails to run quite often, you may end up force rebooting your console a few times which could potentially lead to data loss or make you reinitialise your console if stuff goes wrong which can be pretty annoying if you have stuff you don’t want to lose.

In view of this, well-known scene member Al Azif has recommended that those already on FW 5.05 stay there for now until the jailbreak becomes a tad more stable and below, there’s a video by YouTube channel ‘MODDED WARFARE’ showing that the exploit requires a few tries before it works for some users. That being said, she already updated her servers to host some FW 6.72-compatible payloads and released version 1.0.4 of her PlayStation 4 payload compilation which contains popular payloads including Game Dumper & FTP.

Conclusion

It is important to state that this article is here to inform those thinking about updating to FW 6.72 about the new jailbreak’s low success rate to avoid disappointment by those who want a more stable exploit and NOT to downplay sleirsgoevy’s achievement.

Sleirsgoevy’s jailbreak is obviously a great feat that will finally end the waiting game for many and perhaps usher a new era of PlayStation 4 hacking!
