Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that FW 6.72 has been hacked and a result, hundreds more games are now playable on hacked PlayStation 4 consoles. However, the exploit chain used by the jailbreak for FW 6.72 has a fairly low success rate which prompted some to stay on FW 5.05, a decision which has become less consequential since flatz released scripts for easily backporting newer games (up to FW 6.72) to this firmware!
flatz releases scripts to backport PlayStation 4 titles

With flatz’s scripts, FW 5.05 users can now enjoy games that require FW 5.50-6.72 granting access to many hits including RDR2 & Spider-Man!
Yesterday, @notzecoxao published instructions on how to backport games that work on FW 6.72 (but not FW 5.05) to FW 5.05 although this included manual ELF, SFO & module patching which non-technical users may find a tad daunting to do. Less than an hour later, flatz went ahead and released ELF/SFO downgrading scripts which allow one to easily downgrade the FW requirement of DUMPED games. As a result, this allows one to play FW 5.50-6.72 games on FW 5.05 which has a more stable jailbreak while also having better homebrew compatibility for the time being since FW 6.72 has been jailbroken for just 2 days.
To use the scripts, one can follow the instruction posted by flatz himself on Twitter and have a Python 2.7 interpreter installed. According to reports by community members, popular post-5.05 titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 & Spider-Man are working just fine on FW 5.05 with Dark Souls Remastered also being said to be working.
What games can I look forward to? Do all FW 5.50-6.72 games work on FW 5.05?

KiiWii’s FRMCHK website lists over 1.8k titles in the FW 5.50-6.72 range which can be backported to FW 5.05 after being dupmed!
As FW 6.72 is hacked, games requiring up to and including FW 6.72 can be dumped and backported to run on FW 5.05 (and potentially other versions as well). This means that PlayStation 4 titles released up till around October 2019 can be backported to function on FW 5.05 although these need to be dumped on a PlayStation 4 running FW 6.72 first so you need to own 2 PlayStation 4 consoles (one on FW 5.05 & another on FW 6.72) in order to backport your own games to avoid engaging in piracy. Popular titles that require FW 5.50-6.72 include Spyro Reignited Triology, Devil May Cry 5, Just Cause 4, Battlefield V and many others with RDR2 & Spider-Man already confirmed to be working just fine on FW 5.05.
It is important to state that while the community is expecting most backported games to work just fine, there is the possibility that games make use of features offered by newer PS4 SDKs and they’ll have some form of issues on FW 5.05 that hinder gameplay. Currently, no backported games seem to have exhibit any issues but it’s recommended to keep an eye out for reports by the community before backporting a game only to find out that is broken in some way on lower firmwares!
Conclusion
You can find out more about which games fall within the FW 5.50-6.72 range by checking out @KiiWii’s FRMCHK website which lists over 1800 titles in this range.
