In the last 4 days, the PlayStation 4 scene has been very active thanks to sleirsgoevy releasing his FW 6.72 jailbreak based on TheFlow’s kernel exploit. However, this jailbreak isn’t the most reliable when it comes to running it which has prompted some to stay on FW 5.05 but now, its developer has updated it with code that potentially improves its stability which may increase its success rate!

With Sony putting in so much STABILITY in their firmware updates, it’s now the turn of jailbreak developers to inject stability into their own offerings 
Yesterday, sleirsgoevy pushed three commits on the public GitHub repository hosting his PlayStation 4 FW 6.72 jailbreak with two of them containing messages related to stability improvements. These come amidst reports of a roughly 10% success rate which saw Al Azif, a popular figure in the PlayStation 4 scene, advising against updating to FW 6.72 for the time being and videos showing the amount of tries necessary for some users for a successful run of the jailbreak.
As per the GitHub Commit History, both stability-relating commits have to do with socket-concerning code with one cleaning up all related sockets except spray and another one cleaning up overlap_sock’s RTHDR before the second spray. As of right now, there don’t seem to be concrete reports on the effect of these commits although some users of Al Azif’s Mira-Test page which is hosting the new exploits have reported good success rates with running the jailbreak itself.
Should I update to FW 6.72 then?
Al Azif suggests to stay on FW 5.05 a while longer although expects the exploit to be more stable now. (Tweet)
As things stand, reports about how much the stability has been improved remain limited so if you care about an exploit that works most of the time, you should probably hold off updating to FW 6.72 and stay on FW 5.05 for now. Furthermore, Al Azif who is hosting the exploit on her servers recommends users to stay on FW 5.05 for the time being due to concerns about the exploit’s stability.
It also has to be kept in mind that the FW 6.72 jailbreak is still relatively new and there may be issues lurking around with Mira and other software not to mention that some homebrew may require updating to function properly on this new firmware.
Conclusion
With the recently released backporting scripts allowing one to port FW 5.50-6.72 games to FW 5.05, staying on FW 5.05 seems to be the more appealing option for now especially if you don’t have the time to tinker around with issues that may crop up on FW 6.72. What primarily matters is that sleirsgoevy is interested in improving the stability of his FW 6.72 jailbreak meaning that going forward, we may see even better success rates with the firmware replacing FW 5.05 as the new firmware to be on!
